__________
We are delighted to welcome audiences back to the People's with this warm, poignant, and humorous exploration of womanhood in 20th century England.
Years pass in emotional rather than chronological order as four generations of a family - Doris, Margaret, Jackie, and Rosie - encounter and struggle with motherhood, marriage, and work.
First presented by the People’s in 1998 and rarely seen in Newcastle since, this production offers a powerful and compassionate evening of drama.
Three decades after it was written, Charlotte Keatley’s play provides a stark reminder of the tough choices and compromises faced by women exhorted to ‘have it all’ whilst facing the conflicting demands of domestic life and a career.
This amateur production of “My Mother Said I Never Should” is presented by arrangement with Concord Theatricals Ltd. on behalf of Samuel French Ltd.
