Description
After the death of their father, an army general, the Prozorov girls and their brother are left stranded in a provincial backwater. They dream about returning to Moscow, a city they see through a haze of delusions as a centre of sunshine, refinement, and sensibility. A sharp contrast to the banality, stupidity, and dreariness of their town.
This new version of Chekhov’s masterpiece by Nicholas Wright (author of Vincent in Brixton) premiered at the National Theatre to rave reviews in 2003. Wright’s makeover transforms this renowned classic into an urgent and contemporary family drama.
